Lets you split an incoming signal into two outgoing signals or combine two incoming signals into one signal
The Shure UA221 is a passive antenna splitter/combiner kit that lets you split an incoming signal into two outgoing signals or combine two incoming signals into one signal. Each kit includes two UA221 Splitter/Combiners, four coaxial cables, and attaching hardware. Essentially, the UA221 allows you to share one set of antennas with two separate receivers or distributors. Additionally, the UA221 can also be used to combine two different external antennas into one outgoing signal.
Shure UA221 Splitter/Combiners are designed for use with Shure Model UA400 1/4 wave UHF antennas, UA820 1/2 wave antennas, and UA802/UA825/UA850/UA8100 50 ohm low loss antenna cable.
Shure recommends using UA820 1/2 wave antennas with UA221 Splitter/Combiners. The UA820 provides up to 3 dB of additional gain compared to standard 1/4 wave antennas. The additional gain compensates for signal loss in splitting applications.
Is the UA221 really necessary to split RF signal? Why not just use an ordinary splitter or Y-adapter?
Don't mistake the UA221 for an expensive splitter. There is more going on when you split RF signal than just merely splitting one cable into two, or combining two into one. Great care goes into splitting/combining signals and it involves special circuitry that enables the split or combination to work effectively, with minimal signal loss.
